A major national investment in renewable energy could create 3.5 million green collar jobs over a 10 year period. We must say to America’s workers, particularly those in both urban and rural underserved communities – “there is a place for you in the green economy.” That is why Congresswoman Solis has introduced a green jobs bill that will ensure that workers are skilled on new technology in the renewable energy industry AND that this technology will present a pathway out of poverty for our nation’s unskilled workforce and underserved communities. I am proud that several of our communities have begun to prepare for this shift. For example, Rio Hondo Community College in Los Angeles County has partnered with American Honda Motor Co., John Deere and the Robert Bosch Corporation to establish an alternative fuels vocational technology training program. Congresswoman Solis’ Green Jobs bill will support our nation’s innovation and technological leadership and lift people out of poverty.
